xTool X1 All in One Laser Machine - Which Lasers Do You Need?

xTool X1 all-in-one laser with UV, diode, fiber, MOPA, and CO2 laser sources and finished projects
xTool X1 Laser Guide

Which xTool X1 Lasers
Do You Need?

The X1 runs up to five lasers in one machine, and each one is built for different materials and products. Compare the 55W CO₂, 20W Diode, 5W UV, 30W Fiber, and 60W MOPA by what they make, what they're best at, and how they fit together.

5 Laser Options 55W CO₂ on Every X1 Up to 6,000 mm/s Galvo Laser Swap™ Upgrades

Already know what you need?

How the Lasers Fit Together

Start With CO₂. Grow to Five Lasers.

Every X1 starts with the same 55W CO₂ laser, and every X1, including the Single CO₂, can grow into a full multi-laser setup. The order matters: the 20W Diode Galvo Module comes first, because it's the galvo head the UV, Fiber, and MOPA sources run through.

+ 5W UV, 30W Fiber, or 60W MOPA

Glass, crystal, and metal through Laser Swap™, using the same galvo head as the diode.

One source connected at a time
Good to know: The Single CO₂ can be upgraded, but the 20W Diode Galvo Module is required before you can add the 5W UV, 30W Fiber, or 60W MOPA. UV, Fiber, and MOPA sources can't connect to a CO₂-only X1. If glass or metal is on your roadmap, plan for the diode module, or start with the CO₂ + Diode Galvo, which already includes it.

The Cutter: Thick, Clean Cuts in Wood and Acrylic

The CO₂ laser is the workhorse of the X1. It cuts 18 mm basswood and 20 mm clear acrylic in a single pass with clean, polished edges, and it handles everyday engraving on wood, leather, glass, and coated materials. If your products start as a sheet of material, this is the laser that turns it into parts.

Best For

  • Signs, layered wall art, and wood maps
  • Acrylic displays, cake toppers, and clocks
  • Boxes, organizers, and furniture parts
  • Leather patches, fabric, and paper goods

The Fast Engraver: Photo Detail at Galvo Speed

The 20W Diode Galvo engraves at up to 6,000 mm/s, ten times faster than CO₂ engraving, with a finer spot that keeps every hair, highlight, and texture in a photo. Hybrid Motion™ carries that galvo speed across the whole bed, so a 20-inch engraving or a full tray of coasters runs as one job. It's also the module every UV, Fiber, and MOPA source runs through.

Best For

  • Photo engravings and portraits on wood and slate
  • Batch-personalized coasters, tags, and gifts
  • Leather goods, cardstock, and dark acrylic
  • Coated tumblers and painted metal

Glass & Crystal: Inner Engraving at Production Scale

The 5W UV is a cold-processing laser with a 0.017 mm spot, the finest on the X1. It's the only X1 laser that engraves inside glass and crystal, with a 600 × 300 mm inner-engraving area in the top 50 mm of the block. That's room for a full tray of keepsakes or one oversized award in a single run. It also does clean surface work on glass and ultra-fine marks on plastics and ceramics.

Best For

  • 3D crystal photos, awards, and trophies
  • Etched stemware and decanters with the RA3 Rotary
  • Glass coasters, magnets, and keepsakes
  • Ultra-fine marking on plastics and ceramics

Everyday Metal: Fast, Permanent, High-Contrast Marks

The 30W Fiber is the straightforward choice for metal personalization. Its 1064 nm wavelength leaves dark, permanent marks on stainless steel, aluminum, and brass, and it engraves deep enough for 3D relief work like wax seal stamps. For names, logos, and serial numbers on everyday metal goods, it's fast and dependable.

Best For

  • Knives, lighters, pens, and other EDC gear
  • Pet tags, pendants, and keychains
  • Serial numbers and logos on tools and parts
  • Metal business cards and wax seal stamps

60W MOPA · Galvo Source

Advanced Metal: Color, Depth, and Cutting

The 60W MOPA adds adjustable pulse width, which gives you control over heat and depth on every pass. That's what makes color engraving on stainless steel possible, along with clean black marks on anodized aluminum, the deepest 3D embossing on the platform, and thin-metal cutting. It's also the fastest metal laser on the X1, so it's the pick when metal is a big part of your catalog.

Best For

  • Color art and plaques on stainless steel
  • Embossed coins, medallions, and relief plates
  • Gold-tone name plates and premium awards
  • Thin-metal cutouts, jewelry, and ornaments

Fiber vs. MOPA? Choose Fiber for names, logos, and serial numbers. Choose MOPA if color, cutting, or higher throughput is part of the plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Know Before You Choose

What's the difference between the X1 Single CO₂ and the CO₂ + Diode Galvo?

Both have the same 55W CO₂ laser, cutting capacity, cameras, and work area. The CO₂ + Diode Galvo adds the 20W Diode Galvo Module, which brings engraving at up to 6,000 mm/s (versus 600 mm/s on CO₂), Hybrid Motion™, and the galvo path that UV, Fiber, and MOPA sources run through.

Can the X1 Single CO₂ be upgraded?

Yes. Add the 20W Diode Galvo Module to turn a Single CO₂ into a CO₂ + Diode Galvo setup. From there, you can add a 5W UV, 30W Fiber, or 60W MOPA source through Laser Swap™.

Can I add UV, Fiber, or MOPA directly to the Single CO₂?

No. The 20W Diode Galvo Module is required first. The UV, Fiber, and MOPA sources run through the diode module's galvo head, so they can't connect to a CO₂-only X1.

Should I start with the Single CO₂ and upgrade, or get the CO₂ + Diode Galvo now?

If you mostly cut and want a lower starting point, the Single CO₂ is a solid base you can build on later. If fast engraving, glass, or metal is already part of your plan, the CO₂ + Diode Galvo gets you there in one step, and it's ready for any galvo source. Our team can help you price both paths.

What's the difference between the Base, Versatile, and All in One Bundle?

The Base Bundle is the X1 with your chosen lasers and no added accessories. The Versatile Bundle adds the RA3 Intelligent 5-in-1 Rotary, the Intelligent Conveyor Feeder System, and the Mobile Floor Safe Work Stand. The All in One Bundle includes all three plus the SafetyPro™ AP2 Air Purifier.

Can I have more than one galvo source?

Yes. You can own two or all three of the 5W UV, 30W Fiber, and 60W MOPA sources. You connect one at a time through Laser Swap™ and switch between jobs as needed.

Can I run more than one add-on source at a time?

One external source (UV, Fiber, or MOPA) connects at a time through Laser Swap™. A single job can still combine the CO₂, the 20W Diode, and the connected source, for example engraving metal with MOPA and cutting the acrylic display with CO₂.

Should I choose the 30W Fiber or the 60W MOPA?

Choose the 30W Fiber for everyday metal work like names, logos, serial numbers, black marking, and 3D engraving. Choose the 60W MOPA for color engraving on stainless, deeper embossing, thin-metal cutting, and faster processing.

Which configuration engraves glass and crystal?

Every X1 can surface-engrave glass with the CO₂ laser. For 3D inner engraving in crystal, add the 5W UV source, the only X1 laser that does inner engraving, with an area of up to 600 × 300 mm in the top 50 mm of the glass.

Do I need to recalibrate when I add or switch lasers?

The X1 aligns every laser to one shared coordinate system with up to 0.2 mm accuracy, so you can switch lasers mid-project without re-positioning. When you first install a new UV, Fiber, or MOPA source, run the calibration using the large sheets that come with it.

Do all X1 setups cut the same thickness?

Yes. The 55W CO₂ is the cutting laser on every X1, with up to 18 mm basswood and 20 mm acrylic in a single pass.

Do accessories work with every configuration?

Yes. The RA3 Rotary, Intelligent Conveyor Feeder, Mobile Floor Safe Work Stand, SafetyPro™ AP2, and Honeycomb Laser Cutting Panel work with every X1 laser setup. Two accessories need another one first: the Conveyor Rail Extension Kit requires the Intelligent Conveyor Feeder, and the RA3 Rotary Roller Extension Kit requires the RA3 Rotary.

Is financing available on the X1 and add-on lasers?

Yes. Swing Design offers personal and business financing on every X1 bundle, plus the 20W Diode Galvo Module and the UV, Fiber, and MOPA sources.
