xTool MetalFab Selected Air Dryer for CNC Metal Cutting

Official xTool MetalFab Air Dryer | HyperPure Filtration for CNC Metal Cutting

Dry and clean the air before it hits your xTool MetalFab with the official xTool MetalFab Air Dryer. This compact refrigerated dryer uses a 3-stage HyperPure filter to pull moisture, oil, and dust out of compressed air so the cutter gets assist gas that will not fog the lens path, stain the edge, or foul the head.

xTool’s support docs rate the dryer at 99% moisture removal and 99.99% oil and dust removal, with a dew point of 2–10°C (36–50°F). Run it in line with the xTool MetalFab Air Compressor (or a shop compressor that meets the pressure and flow limits) and the SaveGas™ nozzle, and compressed air can replace nitrogen or argon on the rated cuts: up to 4 mm stainless steel, 4 mm aluminum, and 3 mm brass. The compressor is sold separately. Turn the dryer on first.

What’s Included

  • xTool MetalFab Air Dryer
  • 10 mm Air Connections (M10 quick-connect, same fitting as the MetalFab)
  • Screwdriver & Wrench
  • 110V Power Cable
  • Quick Start and Safety Materials

What It Does on a MetalFab

The compressor makes pressure. The dryer makes that pressure usable.

  • Keeps oil and water out of the head. Wet or oily air lowers cut quality and can damage the welding head and air tubes. xTool does not allow gas that contains oil, water, or is of unknown origin.
  • HyperPure filtration. Three industrial stages strip moisture, oil, and particles before the air reaches the nozzle.
  • Stable dew point. Outlet air holds a 2–10°C dew point. With shop air at 0–40°C and 50–90% humidity, outlet temperature stays in the 0–40°C range.
  • Enough flow for SaveGas cuts. Max allowable airflow is 400 L/min (14.1 CFM). Max allowable pressure is 181 PSI (1.25 MPa). Inlet air must stay at or below 45°C (113°F).
  • U.S. shop power. The dryer is a 110 V, 380 W unit in the U.S. (about 3.45 A). It does not need the compressor’s 220 V circuit.

Why You Cannot Skip It

MetalFab assist air has to be dry and oil-free: oil under 0.01 ppm and a dew point below 10°C in xTool’s gas guide. A bare compressor will not meet that. The official setup is dryer first, then compressor, then the 10 mm hose into the MetalFab. A short tube alone will not condense the water out.

If you already own a compressor, it can feed this dryer only if it holds at least 145 PSI (1.0 MPa) and at least 7 CFM at 87 PSI (200 L/min at 0.6 MPa) with the SaveGas nozzle, and stays under the dryer’s 400 L/min and 181 PSI limits.

Compatibility

Designed for

  • xTool MetalFab laser welder / CNC cutter

Use with

  • xTool MetalFab Air Compressor, or a compressor inside the limits above
  • xTool SaveGas™ nozzle for the 4 mm stainless / 4 mm aluminum / 3 mm brass air-cut ratings
  • 10 mm (M10) gas hose

Do not exceed 181 PSI, 400 L/min, or 50°C inlet air. Those limits are there to protect the dryer and the cut.

Setup Tips

  1. Plug the dryer into a 110 V circuit. Do not put it on the compressor’s 220 V line.
  2. Connect compressor, then dryer, then the 10 mm hose to the MetalFab.
  3. Power the dryer first, then the compressor. Set the compressor to 1.0 MPa and wait until pressure is up.
  4. Fit the SaveGas nozzle for the rated 4 mm / 3 mm air cuts.
  5. Keep inlet air under 45°C and pressure under 181 PSI.
  6. Drain and service the filters on the schedule in the manual. A loaded filter is a pressure drop, not a “cut slower” problem.

FAQ

Do I need the dryer if I already have a compressor?
Yes, if that air is going into a MetalFab. Cutting air has to be dry and oil-free. The dryer is the filter stage. The compressor alone is not.

Can I use my own compressor?
Yes, if it delivers at least 145 PSI and at least 7 CFM at 87 PSI, and stays under 400 L/min, 181 PSI, and 50°C at the dryer inlet.

What voltage does the dryer use in the U.S.?
110 V, 380 W, about 3.45 A. The MetalFab compressor is the 220 V unit. They do not share a circuit.

What cuts does this unlock?
With the xTool compressor (or an equivalent supply), the dryer, and the SaveGas nozzle, xTool rates clean air cuts up to 4 mm stainless, 4 mm aluminum, and 3 mm brass. Thicker stainless still wants nitrogen, argon, or higher pressure. Thicker carbon steel still wants oxygen.

What fitting does it use?
M10 quick-connect on a 10 mm hose, the same as the MetalFab.

Why turn the dryer on first?
So the filter and refrigeration are up before wet air starts moving. xTool’s cutting steps start with the dryer, then the compressor, then a 1.0 MPa set point.
