Yes, you can use your own designs with the Brother SE700 in two different ways. The first would be connecting your machine to the ArtSpira mobile app (available on the Google Play and App Store), using their design tools to create and transfer your designs via Wifi. The other method would be transferring .PES files via a USB device.
As for your question about hats, the SE700 can embroider soft shell hats or any soft hat that can be placed into the flat hoops. However, for hard shell hats (baseball caps, trucker hats, etc), the SE700 is not properly equipped to embroider directly onto the hat.
